Mission

The Lafayette Society promotes awareness of the many contributions to America’s freedom by the Marquis de Lafayette, the French hero of the American Revolutionary War. We honor him for his generosity, patriotism, leadership, opposition to slavery and oppression, and support of human rights for all by encouraging these qualities in the civic character of Fayetteville, North Carolina, the first city in the United States named for him.

Community Involvement

The Lafayette Society supports leadership opportunities for both adults and youth, funds endowments and programs at Fayetteville State University and Methodist University, presents public lectures and similar educational opportunities, and sponsors similar activities which highlight the importance of Lafayette’s enduring legacy.

Events

We invite you to join us for North Carolina’s official Lafayette Birthday Celebration every September, our annual luncheon social every March, and for our many other events!

Our membership meeting/social is held every year in early March.

The French Hero of American Liberty Returns!  The national celebration of the Bicentennial of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour comes to Fayetteville on March 4-5, 2025.

Membership is open to all.
